Questions
Which plan should I pick?
For family photos, Protected is the one to pick (it's coming soon; join the waitlist to hear first). Your files are spread across several drives, so one drive can break without losing anything. Basic is only a cheap extra copy of things you already keep somewhere else.
Why isn't Basic safe for family photos?
Basic keeps one copy on a single drive. Drives wear out eventually, and if that one fails, the files on it are gone. That's why it's so cheap, and why we don't guarantee it.
What makes Ultra different?
Ultra stores your files so that up to three drives can fail at once without losing anything, and keeps a second protected copy in a different location. It's for the data you can't afford to lose. Ultra is coming soon; join the waitlist to hear when it's ready.
How much is 128 GB, or 1 TB?
128 GB holds about 30,000 phone photos. 1 TB holds about 250,000 photos, or roughly 250 hours of phone video.
Do family members have to pay?
No. One plan covers everyone you invite. Grandma doesn't need her own plan.
Can you see my photos?
No, on any plan. Photos are locked on your device before they're sent, and only your family's passwords unlock them. We only ever hold the locked version.
What if I forget my password?
Because nobody else holds your key, we can't reset it for you. But the family's photos aren't lost: whoever runs your family account can send you a fresh invite, and you'll see everything again with a new password. Tip: write your password down and keep it somewhere safe.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. There's no contract. Before you go, you can copy all your photos to a USB stick so nothing is lost.
